Bentonite for ARBOCEL® BC 200, 1 kg
Bentonite is a clayey rock and weathering product of volcanic ash.
It is used in conservation and restoration as a compress material for stone desalination (in mixtures with ARBOCEL® BC 200), as a gelling and thixotropic agent.
- Main mineral: Montmorillonite (clay mineral)
- Bulk density: 780 +/- 100 kg/m³
- Colour: beige
Properties
Its special properties are determined by the clay mineral montmorillonite. Montmorillonite is a swellable clay mineral and the main component of bentonite.
Considerable amounts (2 - 7 times) of water, alcohols, glycols, ammonium compounds, etc. can be stored in the interstices of the montmorillonite layer lattice, forming thixotropic gels due to the associated swelling. In addition to its use as a thixotropic and gelling agent, montmorillonite is used as a binding agent for foundry sands. Due to its ion exchange capacity, it is also used as an adsorbent.
- Compress material for stone desalination (approx. 250 - 300 g ARBOCEL® BC 200 is required per 1 kg bentonite).
- Additive for the production of special cements.
- Additive to increase the water resistance and adhesive strength of concrete.
- Additive to reduce the tendency of concrete to segregate and shrink.
- Additive for the production and refinement of building materials (cement products, plaster products).
