Propadyn Museart 3400, Cassettes large 400 g, 35% to 80 rH
Cassettes of 290 x 100 x 15 mm incl. a 400 g bag of active material.
Propadyn Museart is a passive humidity stabiliser that stabilises the humidity level inside closed rooms during transport and storage.
Propadyn Museart does not need to be activated and does not require electrical energy to function: it is supplied ready to use.
The humidity regulator made of natural, biodegradable material makes it possible to control the humidity between 35 % and 80 % relative humidity and maintain it at this level over a longer period of time; gradually controls and stabilises the humidity at the desired level, without abrupt fluctuations, depending on transport or storage requirements.
- Ability to stabilise humidity: between rH 35 % and rH 80 %
- Stabilisation tolerance: +/- 3 % rH
- Density (active material): 1.1 - 1.5 cm3
- Easy to use
- consists mainly of organic/biodegradable ingredients
- available in sheets and cassettes
Propadyn Museart stands out for its versatility and effectiveness:
- it constantly maintains the desired level of humidity inside closed environments ranging in size from a small box to a shipping container, during transport and storage, even for long periods of time and without any need for electricity.
- It can be used in every type of climate situation: from the desert to the tropics, in places with high or low humidity levels.
- Propadyn Museart can be programmed to maintain the desired degree of humidity, between 35 and 80 %.
Technical Characteristics
- Propadyn Museart prevents humidity fluctuations originating from internal or external sources by gradually compensating for the entry or escape of moisture, thus constantly maintaining a stable level of humidity as programmed. Propadyn Museart rapidly corrects variations in humidity, preventing abrupt fluctuations and constantly maintaining the desired humidity.
- is highly effective both in absorbing and releasing the desired humidity.
- requires no pre-conditioning prior to use.
- is regenerable.
- does not release liquid and powder during use, which is the most frequent drawback of many dehydrating agents and humidity controllers. Propadyn Museart is not deliquescent and can therefore be used under all conditions.
- enables high energy savings in synergy with air conditioning systems.
- acts as a flame retardant, thanks to its chemical composition, countering the propagation of fire.
- is not affected by Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and, at the same time, is able to absorb a high amount of these atmospheric VOC.
Propadyn® acts like a kind of power-free climate control system. If humidity rises – for example, when sunlight heats a display case – Propadyn® rapidly absorbs the excess moisture. When humidity falls again at night, Propadyn® releases the moisture it has stored. In this way, the relative humidity remains stable, with fluctuations kept to a minimum.

Renowned institutions such as the Museo della Scala and the Museo Fila use Propadyn® to protect historic instruments and other sensitive exhibits.
The following references to case studies and material tests (such as the 'Oddy Test') – available either in their original form or as excerpts prepared for you by D&J – demonstrate that Propadyn® is not only effective, but also safe for use with sensitive museum collections.
Museo Polo di Torino
Propadyn® was selected by the Museo Polo di Torino to stabilise the relative humidity inside a display case with a volume of approximately eight cubic metres. The project involved monitoring the thermo-hygrometric conditions within the new Samurai display case in the Rotunda Hall of the Royal Armoury in Turin.

Musée de l'Ephèbe
The collaboration between Promuseum, Propagroup, Testo and the Musée de l’Ephèbe in Cap d’Agde once again demonstrated the effectiveness of Propadyn® in stabilising relative humidity, even under particularly challenging environmental conditions.
The presentation focuses on the preventive conservation of museum collections, with particular emphasis on the measurement and regulation of relative humidity (RH). Using the Musée de l’Ephèbe in Agde as a case study, it explores current approaches to environmental control in exhibition spaces, storage areas and display cases.

Propadyn® Museart – the solution for protecting works of art from humidity.
Propadyn® vs Silica Gel
When conventional silica gel is placed inside a museum display case, it continues to absorb moisture from the air until the environment becomes extremely dry. For many historic objects and materials, such as wood, canvas or parchment, excessively dry conditions can be just as damaging as excessive humidity, potentially causing materials to crack or become brittle. To use silica gel as a humidity buffer, it must first be “pre-conditioned” to the required relative humidity in specialised climate-controlled chambers, which can be a very labour-intensive process.
Conventional silica gel simply removes moisture from the air, whereas Propadyn stabilises humidity bidirectionally. While silica gel acts primarily as a desiccant, Propadyn functions as an intelligent humidity buffer.
Here is a detailed side-by-side comparison of the two technologies:
| Criterion | Conventional Silica Gel | Propadyn |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | One-way absorption: Absorbs moisture until it is saturated. | Bidirectional regulation: Absorbs moisture and releases it again to maintain a target relative humidity level. |
| Target Humidity | Designed to make the air as dry as possible (<10 % to 20 % RH). | Can be set to a specific target value (e.g. precisely 45 %, 50 % or 55 % RH). |
| Pre-conditioning | Required: Must be carefully conditioned to the target relative humidity before use. | Not required: Supplied factory-set to the required target value and ready to use. |
| Response Time | Responds more slowly to sudden changes in ambient conditions. | Responds extremely quickly and immediately compensates for peaks or drops in relative humidity. |
| Sustainability / Material | Generally based on synthetic, amorphous silicon dioxide. | Made from biodegradable, organic ingredients. |
| Pollutant Filtration | Has little or no reliable capacity to bind airborne pollutants (such as acetic acid in display cases). | Can additionally adsorb harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds). |
