Restone® Silicate Chalks
System Bohring / Patent 2000
Weatherproof, lightfast and purely mineral color system, specially developed for stone restoration in terms of color selection and yield.
The colours correspond to the KEIM Natural Stone Shades.
Silicate chalks differ from all chalks in that pigments, binders and fixatives are of pure, anorganic mineral. Due to the production with lightfast pigments and potassium water glass as binding and fixing agent, the colours obtain their high luminosity and weather proofness. Increasingly, silicate chalks are also being used in stone restoration. The Restone® silicate chalks were developed for these special requirements and differ from conventional silicate chalks in terms of colour selection and yield. The large sticks are available in 57 shades plus six additional special shades.
This painting technique was developed by restoration specialist Lothar Bohring specifically for use on mineral, anorganic surfaces, such as stone, lime plaster, concrete non-enameled terracotta and glass (blasted or etched) and a patent was applied for in 1996. Also suitable, of course, for use on wood, paper or any other abrasive material. Silicate chalks allow new design variations like linear drawing, flat, thinned colour applications and smudging using akapad sponge or wet working in with a sponge or brush.
It is important to choose the appropriate fixative, which should always be sprayed. Silicate chalk FIXATIV made of modified potassium water glass is suitable for purely anorganic-mineral substrates. As an alternative, silicic acid ester can also be used as a fixative on sandstone. Acrylic-based silicate chalks UNIFIX is suitable for non-mineral substrates.
Until fixation, the colour application can still be corrected or removed. After fixation has been completed, it is possible to continue working on it with silicate chalks.
The properties of Restone® silicate chalk:
- lightfast pigments
- without organic additives, i. e. purely mineral
- pastel-like colour application
- smudge-proof
- weatherproof, i. e. can also be used for outdoor applications and fixed permanently
- suitable for all mineral surfaces, e. g. stone, plaster, concrete, terracotta, blasted or etched glass
- stick size: approx. 14 x 4 x 2.5 cm
Note: For technical reasons, some of the colour shades shown in the web shop may differ slightly from the actual colour of the colour sticks.
