This time the focus will be on "cold cases" – completed restoration projects that, like criminal cases, are being reopened.

Deffner und Johann will be there again when numerous experts meet in Munich at the eighth FUTURE TALKS conference.

Deffner & Johann and FUTURE TALKS

Since the early days of the events within the framework of the evolving FUTURE TALKS, Deffner & Johann has supported them as a sponsor, whether at conferences, seminars or workshops, e. g. by providing materials and equipment for product demonstrations or even to test and potentially further develop different materials.
We highly appreciate the regular, mutual exchange of knowledge and innovation and deem it extremely necessary, as the dialogue between different disciplines is fundamental for the understanding of cultural assets and art objects.

Deffner & Johann Managing Director Ralph-Uwe Johann will also be on site at this year's FUTURE TALKS in Munich to meet with the FUTURE TALKS community, conservation experts and professionals from all over the world, introducing products innovations to participants and discussing new opportunities for the use of materials from different perspectives.

What is FUTURE TALKS

With more than 1500 participants in the last 14 years, expertise and networking have developed into FUTURE TALKS – an international congress format for knowledge transfer of current research projects in the field of restoration of modern materials as well as the analysis and documentation of technologies used. In the context of expert lectures, panel discussions and workshops, concrete approaches will be presented, questioned and evaluated.

»MATERIALS MATTER.
COLD AND CURRENT CASES IN THE CONSERVATION OF THE MODERN.«

This year's eighth FUTURE TALKS will focus on cold cases. Restoration projects that have already been completed will be examined, but also cases that have been presented at this conference of Die Neue Sammlung in Munich since 2009.

With industrialisation, the increasing development of materials and related technologies have had an ever-greater influence on the design of goods and works of art. To this day materials are being invented, modified, blended and adapted to the needs of the market and the environment. For example, material degradation in plastics can lead to the complete loss of museum pieces.
Conservators confronted with cultural objects of the 20th and 21st centuries must recognise and interpret such complex relationships to gain a proper understanding of degradation and thus to develop appropriate conservation methods and the respective treatments.
