Ottosson Linseed Oil Paint contains only linseed oil and traditional pigments.
Founded in 1989, Ottosson Färgmakeri AB is today a world leader in know-how, development and production of high-quality, pure linseed oil paints. Ottosson linseed oil is grown in southern Sweden, where the geographical location and the soil conditions are excellent for the quality of the linseed oil with its special properties. The contacts with the local producers are direct and have existed for many years in some cases. This ensures that only linseed oil of the best quality and without undesirable additives is used.
Pressing the linseed without heating it first leads to a lower yield, but results in a clearer and purer product. This raw linseed oil has a lower surface tension than water and thus an unrivalled penetration capacity. It preserves its base, protects wood from rotting, plaster from crumbling and iron from rusting. Ottosson Linseed Oil Raw is therefore particularly suitable as a primer for wood outdoors and as a thinner for linseed oil paint when applying the first coat. The raw linseed oil is also the basis for Ottosson Artists Linseed Oil Paints.
To shorten the drying time, Ottosson still uses the historical technique of boiling. The linseed oil is heated to about 140 °C and oxygen and metal salts are added. The boiled linseed oil is somewhat thicker and, in addition to drying faster, has excellent adhesion and penetration properties. It is used as a binder for Ottosson linseed oil paints. For special requirements, Ottosson elaborately refines the raw linseed oil by exposing it to natural sunlight and oxygen for several months outdoors in a specially developed facility. The resulting sun-oxidised, bleached linseed oil (stand oil according to the historical process) is of unique quality and can be used as an additive for the final coat of exterior paint to improve gloss, flow, drying properties and durability.
The Ottosson company has researched tried and tested methods over centuries and rediscovered them for paint production. Produced in the traditional way and with a great deal of manual labour, Ottosson linseed oil paints have a genuine historical reference and have gained wide acceptance in heritage conservation and restoration today.
The paints are suitable for almost any surface, especially wood, plaster, stone and iron.
Ottosson linseed oil paint is characterised by the following properties:
- Cost-effective: up to three times more surface area can be covered per litre of paint than with water-based paints can be covered.
- Very good ageing properties and durability: due to the small Due to the small molecule size, the colour penetrates deeper into materials.
- Insensitive to frost, dry content of 100 %.
- Ottosson linseed oil paints do not contain any plastics and therefore do not microplastics.
