Support for Ukrainian museums

Support for Ukrainian museums

»The trustees, staff and members of ICON are devastated by the events unfolding in Ukraine and by the terrible suffering of the people and the sad loss of civilian lives. Although our primary care is for the safety and wellbeing of the people of Ukraine, we remain concerned about the continuing threat to the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.«*

Deffner & Johann was contacted by Prof. Dr. Alexandra Jeberien, THW Berlin, asking for equipment and materials urgently needed to pack cultural heritage in Ukraine safely. The appeal was launched by the „Center to Rescue Ukraine's Cultural Heritage“.

As a contribution to the support of this initiative by the National Museums in Berlin, Deffner & Johann has provided several packeging materials. The collection of materials will be taken to Lviv in Ukraine and distributed to the museums.

The Norwegian Museum in Lillehammer also supports this initiative. The museum's restorer, Yngve Magnusson, has prepared a video tutorial on the handling and packing of art objects, if necessary, also with improvised materials. You can watch the video with valuable tips here on our D&J-YouTube channel.

We hope that the materials and additional information will be useful. Most of all, however, we hope that the art objects will not need shelter, that the war will come to an end as soon as possible and that the people in Ukraine will no longer be exposed to Russian aggression.
