Lascaux Paraloid® B 72, 50 % Solution in Toluene, gloss, 1 l
Proven since the 1950s in conservation and restoration.
Used to consolidate and impregnate mural paintings and oil paintings, as a fixative, as well as for the consolidation of wood. Also as an adhesive for glass and ceramics.
Base: Copolymer of ethyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate.
Paraloid B 72 has been used in restoration since the 1950s and is considered the most tested and most stable resin used for the conservation of works of art.
Properties
- Thermoplastic pure acrylate
- Resistant to light and ageing, non-crosslinking
- Medium-hard
- Glass transition temperature (Tg) 40 °C
- Softening/sealing point approx. 70 °C
- Melting/flow point approx. 150 °C
- Solubility: Very soluble in toluene and acetone; can be further diluted with xylene, Shellsol A, isopropanol, alcohol, butyl glycol, methoxypropanol (PM). Not soluble or dilutable with aliphatic hydrocarbons such as turpentine substitute/White Spirit.
Application
Consolidation of paint layers (murals, paintings, sculptures), consolidation of wood, adhesive for glass and ceramic objects.
