Preprints of the contributions to the 27th conference of the professional association of Austrian restorers in cooperation with the Institute for Conservation-Restoration of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the IIC Austria: “Narratives. Contributions to the history of conservation-restoration” on September 29 - 30, 2022, Vienna. The volume brings together contributions from the symposium “Narratives. Contributions to the History of Conservation” (September 29 - 30, 2022, Vienna). The aim of the symposium was a synopsis of various narrative threads about the beginnings of a discipline that, at the time of its creation, was already in the field of tension between artistic, manual and scientific practices and knowledge cultures and from there developed into the subject we now call conservation-restoration. Under the broad term "History of Restoration", the contributions in these conference proceedings not only deal with a wide range of specialist areas - from archaeological objects, paintings, books and paper to stone and wall painting - but also cover different thematic aspects such as historical restoration and radiological investigation methods, oral history and the development of educational institutions.
