UV Lights

With the help of UV lamps, hidden traces on artworks and historical objects become visible

– allowing conservators and art experts to uncover what the naked eye cannot see. Under UV light, overpaintings, retouches, varnishes and pigment variations reveal themselves, providing valuable clues about the history and restoration of an artwork. What appears uniform in normal light becomes alive with details – from underdrawings to later alterations and even possible datings, such as through fluorescent pigments like zinc white.
