Lascaux Heat-Seal Adhesive 375 P, in solution, 1 l
The proven Heat-seal Adhesive in a new formulation without toluene.
The adhesive 375 P is a further development of BEVA based on a mix of copolymer resins and paraffin. It offers all properties required by professionals in conservation and restauration.
Heat seal adhesive for canvas, paper and textile doubling, suitable for temporary and permanent bonding.
Heat seal adhesive based on ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, cyclohexanone resin, phthalate esters of hydroabiethyl alcohol and paraffin. 40 % dissolved in propylal.
Important innovations
- Instead of toluene, the adhesive 375 P now contains the much less toxic solvent propylal. This means that there is no longer a health risk when using it. In addition, the flash point of the new solvent is much higher.
- The adhesive 375 P is ready to use and st the same concentration and is easier to handle. It has a paste-like concistency and can be applied directly. There is no need to heat it in a water bath and the adhesive does not necessarily have to be diluted.
- Solubility: we recommended the solvent propylal.
Properties
- Activation temperature: 62 - 65 °C
- Acid value: below 1
- Colourless when cold, transparent when sealed
- Excellent adhesion properties
- Age-resistant, non-yellowing
Use and application
- Lining of paintings on canvas, with or without interleaf
- Mountings of paper or textile
- Strip-lining
- Facings
- Consolidation of primers and paint layers
- Temporary and permanent bondings
Processing
Lascaux Heat-seal Adhesive 375 P is applied by spray ing, brushing or with a roller. Compared to the previous formulation, the adhesive 375 P can be applied directly. Heating in a water bath is no longer required, and the adhesive does not necessarily have to be diluted. If desired, the adhesive 375 P can be gently heated in a water bath and diluted with petroleum benzine / New toluene free formula white spirit 100/140 at a ratio of approx. 2:1 to 1:1.
Lascaux recommend applying two coats to achieve higher strength.
The adhesive 375 P is applied cold or warm (heat increases penetration). For spray application, it is advisable to dilute the adhesive with propylal to reduce the viscosity.
Only after all solvents contained have competely evap orated (approx. 24 hours) the lining or sealing can be carried out properly.
For linings, Lascaux Heat-seal Adhesive 375 P is applied either on the lining canvas or on an interleaf (e. g. polyester non-woven). The dried adhesive layer is sealed at approx. 62 - 65 °C on the heating table under a slight vacuum or using an iron or hot air gun. Heat activation can take place after days or weeks.
To strengthen and consolidate primers and paint coats, the adhesive 375 P is preferably diluted 1:4 with petro leum benzine (white spirit) 100/140 or, if compatible, with Propylal for better penetration (warm solutions also improve penetration). Seal after complete drying at 62 - 65 °C and under light pressure. The adhesive 375 P can be removed either with heat or solvents such as acetone or white spirit 100/140.
