As Managing Director of Deffner & Johann, it is important to me to address you personally today.

Deffner & Johann is celebrating its 140th anniversary. Due to the Corona crisis, the anniversary is under very special circumstances. Customer events and trade fair visits have been paused. COVID-19 presents us all with enormous challenges. Especially now it is important to keep the principles of the last decades in focus: To act reliably for customers, employees and suppliers.

As a company, we have taken numerous measures since March 16 to adapt our processes to the changed situation and to take the best possible precautions for the health of my employees.

SHAKE it, blast it, it‘s clean

Together with SHAKEINCONSERVATION SHAKEINCONSERVATION, a non-profit organization to connect students and young professionals in conservation in Belgium, Deffner & Johann hosted a two day workshop on soft particle cleaning at the University of Antwerp.

This summer Deffner & Johann had the wonderful opportunity to visit Robert Gamblin and his wife Catherine in Portland, USA. On a beautiful sunny morning Robert led us through his paint factory, showed and explained the production of the paints - it was "Red Day".

Gamblin's company produces more than 200 colors in an environmentally friendly and safe production process in southeast Portland. Gamblin Artists Colors' paints and Gamsol solvent - an odorless solvent - are all non-toxic and lead-free.

IADA – Deffner & Johann is there again

Deffner & Johann welcomes paper conservators from all over the world at iada conference 2019 from September 23^rd to 27^th.

This congress will address the latest developments in the profession, which cover, but are not confined to, conservation decision-making, collection risk management, surveys, sharing positive and negative outcomes of scientific research and conservation projects, art technological studies (artist’s materials and techniques), ethical considerations in conservation as well as hands-on experiences.

Deffner & Johann wins Bavarian Export Award 2018

Almost the whole team of Deffner & Johann experienced a great award ceremony in Munich. After a laudation and the presentation of a short image film about Deffner & Johann, Ralph-Uwe Johann (Owner and Managing Director) received at November 21^th the award for the category commerce from Hubert Aiwanger, deputy minister president of Bavaria.

Zum zwölften Mal erfolgreich dabei – auf der wichtigsten Fachmesse unserer Branche – denkmal in Leipzig.

Die denkmal 2018 hat am Samstag ihre Tore geschlossen, hunderte Farb- und Materialproben, Werkzeuge und Demogeräte wurden verpackt und auf den Weg zurück nach Röthlein gebracht. Drei ereignisreiche Messetage in Leipzig liegen hinter uns.

Zunächst möchten wir uns bei den zahlreichen Kunden und Interessenten für ihren Besuch auf unserem Stand bedanken. Unsere mittlerweile zwölfte Teilnahme bei der denkmal – seit ihrem Bestehen waren wir immer vertreten – kann in jeder Hinsicht als Highlight unserer langjährigen Messeerfahrungen bezeichnet werden.

ERC 2018 will bring together registrars, collection and exhibition managers and colleagues from across the world.

The European Registrars Conference takes place every two years and provides a fantastic forum to meet, network, exchange ideas and knowledge from across the sector.

Istanbul Workshop series continued.

From September 19^th to September 21^st Deffner & Johann presented a new series of workshops on conservation best practices in Istanbul, Turkey.
