In 2022, as in 2021, many things went differently than we thought or had planned. In business terms, Corona and all its ramifications still had us in its grip at the beginning of the year.

Since February 2022, Russia's war against Ukraine has marked a turning point – politically and economically. Many German companies, including Deffner & Johann, had to decide quickly how to react to the new situation. It was basically a question of whether one can still do business with Russia - and wants to.

The Department of Cultural Heritage and Conservation of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA for short) organized a Nanorestore® workshop in cooperation with Deffner & Johann GmbH from December 12 - 14, led by Yngve Magnusson (Dipl. Rest. Univ.).

We are looking back on three intensive days at the fair, where you could feel the enthusiasm of everyone involved at every second. After the pandemic-related cancellation two years ago, the 14th denkmal returned very successfully to the great delight of all exhibitors, partners and visitors. 351 exhibitors from 12 countries presented their products and services from all areas of monument conservation and restoration at denkmal.

From May 18th to 19th, 2022, Deffner & Johann organized the two day workshop "Soft Particle Blasting - the Gentle Dry Cleaning" at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden, directed by Maren Dümmler M.A., a specialist on paper conservation. Soft particle blasting can be used to clean paper, parchment, wood, glass, wax seals, metal and many other surfaces gently.
